"..supaya dia mati dengan serta merta'

Today the Star has published a list of Past deviationist happenings.  This is after yesterday's report about the guy who attacked the PM's Department with samurai swords on Monday. The Star's list includes seven other weird characters who all believed about the same things as the guy who attacked the PM's Department.

I have a question for everyone, especially the Muslims, to ponder.  All these people ended up believing the same weird things (more or less). None of them knew each other, they were not friends or neighbours. So where did they all go to learn all these similar deviant beliefs?

Think very carefully. Did they all go to a special 'sekolah ajaran sesat'? Are there special 'sekolah ajaran sesat' which teach them all these strange things? The answer is a flat NO.

There is no special "sekolah ajaran sesat" in the country.  So where do they go to learn these strange things? Think carefully. Where would the "samurai man" have learned his deviationist teachings?  They listen to the same religious teachers and preachers. They listen to the same ceramah  that everyone else does. They listen to the same ideas that everyone else listens to as well.

Dont believe me? Here is the evidence :  after the Kampong Memali clash the PAS declared 'Ibrahim Libya' a syahid. Why? Because PAS and Ibrahim Libya believe in the same things. They read the same books.

The only thing that is preventing many others from becoming equally deviant is because

i.     we have regular 9-5 jobs or we run businesses
ii.    we have a Western based education
iii.   we live in a modern world and
iv.   we are forced to interact with other human beings, especially non Muslims.

All these things keep us sane and sound and on the straight path.  If we dont have i - iv above, tak tahulah what will happen. Maybe samurai swords all the way.

The title of this Blog "..supaya dia mati dengan serta merta" is not aimed at the samurai sword man. Not at all. This is a translation of a verse in the Quran - from Surah Al Haqqah or Surah No. 69.  This is a warning that was issued to the Rasul or Prophet.  Allah threatens to kill the Prophet  "....supaya dia mati dengan serta merta".

My dear Muslim friends, why does Allah threaten to kill the Prophet of Islam ?

There is a great lesson here for all Muslims.  First let us look at the 10 relevant verses from Surah Al Haqqah ie verses 38 until 47. (Surah 69 : 38 - 47).

To avoid accusations of being selective in choosing translations etc I have extracted the verses from FIVE different translations ie three English translations, one Malay translation and one Indonesian translation. Here they are :

1. Malay translation (from readthequran.org)  Surah 69 : 38 - 47

46 Kemudian sudah tentu Kami akan memutuskan tali jantungnya (supaya dia mati dengan serta-merta);
47 Maka tidak ada seorangpun di antara kamu yang dapat menghalang daripada menimpanya.

Here is the Indonesian translation :

2. Indonesian translation (from readthequran.org)

44 Seandainya dia mengada-adakan sebagian perkataan atas (nama) Kami (taqawwala alaina)
45 Niscaya benar-benar kami pegang dia pada tangan kanannya.
46 Kemudian benar-benar Kami potong urat tali jantungnya.
47 Maka sekali-kali tidak ada seorang pun dari kamu yang dapat menghalangi (Kami), dari pemotongan urat nadi itu.

Here is an English translation

5. Translation by Abdullah Yusuf Ali

69:38 So I do call to witness what ye see,
69:39 And what ye see not,
69:40 That this is verily the word of an honoured apostle;
69:41 It is not the word of a poet: little it is ye believe!
69:42 Nor is it the word of a soothsayer: little admonition it is ye receive.
69:43 (This is) a Message sent down from the Lord of the Worlds.
69:44 And if the apostle were to invent any sayings in Our name (taqawwala alaina)
69:45 We should certainly seize him by his right hand,
69:46 And We should certainly then cut off the artery of his heart:
69:47 Nor could any of you withhold him (from Our wrath).

6. Translation by Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall :

69:38 But nay! I swear by all that ye see
69:39 And all that ye see not
69:40 That it is indeed the speech of an illustrious messenger.
69:41 It is not poet's speech - little is it that ye believe!
69:42 Nor diviner's speech - little is it that ye remember!
69:43 It is a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.
69:44 And if he had invented false sayings concerning Us,
69:45 We assuredly had taken him by the right hand
69:46 And then severed his life-artery,
69:47 And not one of you could have held Us off from him.

7. Translation by Shakir

69:38 But nay! I swear by that which you see,
69:39 And that which you do not see.
69:40 Most surely, it is the Word brought by an honored Apostle,
69:41 And it is not the word of a poet; little is it that you believe;
69:42 Nor the word of a soothsayer; little is it that you mind.
69:43 It is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
69:44 And if he had fabricated against Us some of the sayings,
69:45 We would certainly have seized him by the right hand,
69:46 Then We would certainly have cut off his aorta.
69:47 And not one of you could have withheld Us from him.

Verses 38 until 47 of this Surah Al Haqqah (by the way Al Haqqah means 'The Certainty' or 'The Sure Reality') are actually an oath or swearing by Allah the Creator.

Allah says He calls to witness "by all that you can see and by all that you cannot see." This covers the entire universe. It is the biggest oath that Allah the Creator is swearing upon. Which means this oath by Allah the Creator is very, very big and important. So what is this oath that Allah is swearing upon?

That the Quran is certainly the word of a honored Messenger (innahu la qawlu rasoolin kareem)

Innahu    -  Most certainly
la qawlu -  this is the speech
rasoolin -  of a Rasul / Messenger
kareem -   who is honored

The Quran is not the word of some soothsayer or a poet.  If the Rasul had invented any sayings and then attributed them to Allah (taqawwala alaina) then the Rasul would have been in trouble. The Quran says :

69:46 And We should certainly then cut off the artery of his heart (Yusuf Ali)

69:46 Kemudian sudah tentu Kami akan memutuskan tali jantungnya (Malay)

69:46 Kemudian benar-benar Kami potong urat tali jantungnya. (Indonesian)

The Malay translation also adds inside brackets  (supaya dia mati dengan serta-merta).

So my dear Muslim friends who can think : please figure this out.  After receiving this type of a death threat from Allah Almighty, do you think that the Rasul would dare to tell the people,

"Dear Muslims, I have something extra to add, and this is also from Allah.."

So the enxt time your hear your ostat telling you :

i. mengikut kehendak Islam
ii. mengikut kehendak syariat
iii. mengikut pandangan si polan si polan
iv. mengikut this and mengikut that

please bear this in mind :

69:44 And if the apostle were to invent any sayings in Our name (taqawwala alaina)
69:45 We should certainly seize him by his right hand,
69:46 And We should certainly then cut off the artery of his heart:
(Abdullah Yusuf Ali)
